San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is the seventh largest school district in California, educating over 57,000 students every year. San Francisco is both a city and a county ; therefore, SFUSD administers both the school district and the San Francisco County Office of Education (COE). This makes SFUSD a “single district county.”

Salary and benefits at SFUSD
Salary
SFUSD offers competitive salaries determined by experience, education level, and credentials. Starting salary for new credentialed teacher (no prior experience) is $63,458, and teachers may also qualify for additional incentives.
Equity-Based Incentives
SFUSD provides annual financial incentives of up to $2,000 for teachers who choose to work at hard-to-staff schools (those with historically high turnover) and $1,000 for teachers in hard-to-fill subject areas (Bilingual and Special Education).
National Board Certification
SFUSD recognizes the tremendous impact that National Board Certified teachers have on teaching and learning, and they provide support for educators who engage in the certification process. As a result, SFUSD has the highest concentration of National Board Certified teachers in the State of California. National Board Certified teachers receive a salary increase of $5,000.
